Changing
I am a very habitual person. Find a habit good or bad and stick with it right! WRONG….not all of my habits are good for me or our planet. So that is why I am working on making better “GREEN” choices. I carry my cloth totes in my car at all times…but I very often forget and run into the grocery store without it…I then come out with all those plastic bags that I then have to take to recycling! How am to solve this? I am working on being conscious of where those cloth bags are. I now place them on my front seat under my purse. As many of you know I have lived on a sailboat for the past 7 years. We ALWAYS used cloth totes for our grocerys…number one reason is to condense your grocerys’ number two reason is we needed big totes that we could carry easily for a mile or maybe a mile and a half. Carrying plastic grocery bags was not an option. I need to bring my boating mentality to land.
Hopefully you are using your cloth tote. Did you know if ALL OF US…that’s every AMERICAN…used cloth totes we would waste 380 BILLION fewer plastic bags (think oil product) this year. This is a shocking figure!
We now have DIRTY GIRL FARM bags for sale at $5.00 a bag…that is how much it cost us! They are bigger and taller than the average paper grocery sack or those cloth bags you can know purchase in your grocery store. The best part is that our DIRTY GIRL FARM bag is made from recycled materials.
Remember to think GREEN when you are out shopping. Make wise choices not habitual ones. It is time for all of us to rethink our habits. Continue to ask yourself “why” you do what you do…”why” you purchased what you purchased. I love the story about a woman who was teaching her 30 year old daughter how to roast a turkey, she split the turkey in two and placed both sections into two different roasting pans. He daughter asked her why she was doing that. She said that her mother had always done it that way. So she asked her mother why she had always done it that way and she said it was because she didn’t have a pan big enough so she cut it in half. Habits can be passed down!
